You don’t have to.
The Average Juana is free and all articles are available for your reading pleasure. In fact, I get a kick out of being a guinea pig/consumer spy for the newest, most interesting products and services related to beauty and lifestyle. It’s a privilege to share my “research findings” — and the inevitable misadventures that come with it.
However.
I don’t get freebies from the companies and establishments I write about. First of all, they have no idea who I am (as a matter of principle I will never voluntarily reveal my identity).
Second, even if by some chance their PR and marketing people do track me down, I wouldn’t accept any gifts or sponsorships from them. The minute I do, I would feel obligated, I wouldn’t be able to write an honest assessment, and this blog would lose its reason for being.
That’s why I spend my own money in my own time to find out what things would be most interesting and what information would be most useful for us Juanas.
I am not asking you to pay for my expenses or my efforts. I am not asking anything.
But in case you feel like showing your support and appreciation for this blog, a cash donation would be one way to do it.
It would definitely keep The Average Juana as it is now, and as I have always envisioned it: a repository of reliable, anti-fluff articles with information untainted by spin doctors and their gimmicks. Sure, the entries may be prone to anecdotes and digressions, but they would always, always be meaty, not praise press releases.
And so.
A little donation every now and then would help maintain the integrity of The Average Juana. It sounds backwards, but it’s true. Money does matter. And any amount of money given freely would help me independently research and experience the products and services you, me and the rest of the Juanas out there would want to know about.
